Hearthstone Decklist Guide: Mid-range Paladin (Un’Goro Standard)

Yup, after previously being lost from circulation, Mid-range Paladin rose again at the Hearthstone meta today thanks to the expansion of Journey to Un'Goro. The presence of the Murloc package and some buffs are very useful, making these decks have quite terrible aggression in the early game, but still able to fight in the late game well.

Because of its consistency in almost all phases of the game, Mid-range Paladin is one of the most powerful decks in Hearthstone today.

Decklist


This deck consists of minions and strong spells throughout the game.

For the start of the game, you have the Murloc package, especially Hydroligist, Rockpool Hunter, and Vilefin Inquisitor. Their presence on board is a serious threat because it can become even stronger thanks to Murloc Warleader and Gentle Megasaur.

To complete the early game, enter Stonehill Defender and Wickerflame Burnbristle. Both are Taunt minions that can keep you facing aggressive decks. Stonehill Defender itself will also give you a tool to survive or a strong card in the late game, depending on your needs and your opponent at that time.

Like the version on Hearthstone's expansion before, this deck also has a bit power to plays on turn four, namely with Truesilver Champion and Consecration. Both of them make you able to neutralize your opponent's aggression, which automatically gives you space to grab the initiative the next time you turn.

For late games, Paladin also has some horrible cards. Sunkeeper Tarim can be an alternative clear board or win condition if you have enough minions. Spikeridged Steed can make the small minion that you have on the board can be very strong. The curator is one of the most reliable draw cards you can have, and also a fairly large Taunt minion.

Finally, Tirion Fordring and Ragnaros, Lightlord are two super big cards that are not only good for surviving, but also a serious threat that must be handled by your opponent.

Finally, for clear board and removal, besides Consecration, you have Equality that you can pair with Wild Pyromancer or Primordial Drake. Then for removal to the opponent's large minion, you can use the Kodo Stampeding that can be paired with the Peacekeeper Aldor.

Variant, Tech Choice, and Flavor Card
The decklist beside is the decklist used by Hendry "Joth703" Handisurya at the HCT Tavern Hero Tournament Spring 2017. But this deck itself has many variants and tech choices that you can choose.

If you want to play a little more aggressively, you can reduce the late game card, you can reduce the clear board or removal you have with other Murloc cards such as Murloc Tidecaller.

If you often encounter aggressive decks, you can increase the number of clear boards such as the second Wild Pyromancer, Taunt like Tar Creeper, or heal like Forbidden Healing. If you often face deck control or mid-range, you can increase the number of mid and late game cards such as entering the second Kodo Lay on Hands or Stampeding.

Gameplay


Broadly speaking, the strategy of playing this deck is to master the board since the early game and do snowball, while controlling the opponent's initiative.

Fortunately, this deck can do this consistently thanks to the many tools that it has. Every minion you have on the board can be a serious threat to your opponent, thanks to the minions and spells that work together with each other.

At the beginning of the game, always look for the Murloc troops you have. One Murloc in the first turn can give you the opportunity to start snowballing, especially if you have Rockpool Hunter in the second turn or Murloc Warleader in the third turn.

If you turn out to face aggressive decks, other than early game cards, look for clear boards such as Consecration, Taunts such as Stonehill Defender and Wickerflame, or removal like Truesilver Champion. If you face a mid-range or control deck, look for the right card to do snowball.


Entering mid-game, all of your minions are a serious threat. If you have a large number of minions, you can just do the swing board with Tarim. Even the small minion you have on the board can swing with Spikeridged Steed.

This advantage will force your opponents to react like using removal or clear board. But if you can play this deck well, you can re-fill the board, or even play the big minions more safely.

The mechanism of surviving the deck is also quite solid and consistent. Both Tarim, Equality, or Aldor plus Kodo can always help you overcome your opponent's board. Then if you turn out to have critical health, you can play Ragnaros, Lightlord, or other heal cards that you carry.

The only condition that makes this deck lose, besides a bad draw, is when your opponent can take the initiative and snowball is much faster than you. If you don't prepare a removal or the appropriate board clear, your opponent will continue to do snowball, while all the initiatives you try to make will not matter.
